The Development Office and the Parent Organization (comprised of
volunteer parents) work together on several events throughout the
school year. Their purpose is to aid the school by planning
fund-raisers and social gatherings, and by providing services for the
benefit of the students attending Oak Hill Academy.
Some of the events held in the past are:
- Welcome Back CoffeeHeld
early each fall, the Welcome Coffee is the place to learn what is
planned for the upcoming year, to meet fellow parents, and sign up for
committees.
- Family BrunchHeld in the early fall, the Family Brunch is not
a fund-raiser. It is a social opportunity for OHA families to come
together in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy some delicious food.
- Back-To-School NightsHeld
in September, this is the first opportunity for parents to meet their
child's current teachers. Volunteer parents provide hospitality for
these evenings.
- Mitten Tree & Food CollectionThe Student Council, with the support of
the OHA Parent
Organization, sponsors two winter holiday programs - The Mitten Tree
and the "Adopt a Family" program. During this time, students collect
food, gifts, and money for needy families.
- School Sweats SaleOak
Hill families get to share their school spirit by purchasing high
quality sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts, gym bags, etc. with
the school logo imprinted on each.
- Book FairsBook
fairs are held in the fall and spring with parents serving as
volunteers. Proceeds directly benefit the Oak Hill Academy library.
- Family Fun NightHeld in the winter, this is an occasion for families to get together and have a good time. It is not a fund-raiser.
- Harvest Holiday Happening
- Held in the Fall, this is the perfect opportunity for the
ladies to have a social night out. Vendors are available for everyone to get a
jump on their holiday shopping.
Dinner Dance - Held
in the spring, this social fund-raiser compliments the cash raffle
sponsored by the development office. A theme is coordinated by the two
groups and activities are planned and integrated. The evening usually
includes dancing, fine food, a chance auction, a silent auction, and
even a live acuction, all organized by volunteer parents.
Cash Raffle - This
fund-raiser is held in the spring and is offered to the general public
as well as the Oak Hill community. Proceeds can amount to as much as
$20,000 for Oak Hill Academy. This event is run by the development
office.
8th Grade Trip - A
committee of 8th grade parents plan activities for the graduating
class. They may assist the class in raising funds for their trip, as
well as hosting a class party.
Field Day - Held
in May, a committee of parents arranges for pizza, soda, and ice for
all students participating in outdoor activities. They may also help in
the running of the games.
Red & White Day - This
is a wonderful opportunity for incoming students to meet future
classmates and teachers, while participating in some fun events. At the
same time, current parents serve refreshments to prospective parents.
Plant Sale - Planned to coincide with Mother's Day, high quality plants for the garden, as well as beautiful hanging baskets, are sold.
Grandparent/Special Relative Day - Held
in the spring, these special people get to visit the school and
participate in the students' classes. Parents provide the hospitality
and serve as guides throughout the morning.
Student enrichment programs are also handled through the school office.
Parents are encouraged to share their skills, hobbies, and experiences with the student body.
Such programs have included candy making, pumpkin carving, star gazing, bird-house making, and career counseling.
