At Oak Hill, emphasis is placed on a traditional approach to learning and applying the basic skills. The Academy provides a friendly atmosphere in which students are stimulated, challenged, and involved in their education.
Both average and above average students participate in course work that is integrated in all areas and often accelerated. Small class size and individual attention permit youngsters to develop to their fullest potential. This also allows for extra help and advanced work both in the classroom and during after-school tutoring.
A key component to Oak Hill's success has been its ability to remain at the cutting edge of educational technology. A state-of-the-art technology center equipped with multimedia computers, scanners, hundreds of CD-ROMs, and high speed access to the Internet connects students to vast amounts of information and brings the world to their fingertips. Computers, networked for advanced telecommunications, are available to students and faculty in all classrooms and are utilized from grades 5 - 8 during innovative tech classes. Oak Hill's Student Activities Center houses the latest in educational technology. Its computer room has computers for each student's instruction and "Smartboard" technology. There is also a room for distance learning and a media room for multimedia production such as film editing and digital photography. In the full-day Pre-Kindergarten, learning and self-confidence are encouraged through discovery and play with an emphasis on all aspects of childhood development. Well-equipped interest areas allow for multisensory involvement of the student in inter-disciplinary subjects. The reading and math programs are an excellent preparation for the lower school curriculum. |
